Background

Our History

Portland Youth Climate Strike began in February 2020 through the combined efforts of our Co-leads, Lana Perice and Catie Macauley. As a chapter of the Oregon Youth Climate Strike, it was formed to create a more focused climate justice effort in Portland specifically. We joined the Bend/Central branch and the Salem branch, and currently have 16 members.

Portland Youth Climate Strike aims to promote environmental and social justice by

  • Educating the public about environmental/social issues

  • Amplifying youth in the fight for climate justice

  • Supporting the passing of policies that support climate justice

  • Emphasizing the importance of intersectional climate activism

  • Being an active ally in the fight for racial justice

  • Doing so with an emphasis on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ voices
